Carpet Cleaning Tips

There are a number of things that you can do in order to keep your carpets looking as great as they can.

What to Do on Your Own

You can start by blotting any excess stains in a spill. You can then test a removal material on a spot on a carpet that can’t be easily seen. If it works you can go to the spot and clean it. The process will vary according to the stain you need to remove. The next few sections are devoted to these individual stains.

Butter, Cooking Oil, Crayon, Gravy, Hand Lotion, Mascara, Shoe Polish, Tar:

You can get a commercial solvent on the stain and then blot it to absorb the stain. A mild detergent can then be added. The excess should be blotted up again. The area can then be wiped with a cloth with water. You should then blot dry everything.

Blood, Catsup, Chocolate, Mud, Egg, Ice Cream, Mayonnaise, Milk, Soy Sauce:

Add a mild detergent and then blot the area to absorb excess items. Ammonia can be added and blotted. Only a small bit of ammonia is good enough. You can then repeat with a small detergent and blotting process. You will have to wipe with a watery cloth and then blot dry things.

Beer, Berries, Candy, Coffee, Fruit Juices, Mixed Drinks, Soft Drinks, Wine:

Use a mild detergent first. You can blot the excess items out. A small bit of vinegar can be added with another bit of mild detergent. The area should then be blotted. You can finally wipe the area with a soaked cloth and then blot dry.

These steps should work well but you should contact an expert for help if they don’t work. Remember, do-it-yourself processes that are done improperly could make a stain harder to remove.
